his hat made him look like an armadillo in a rainstorm but he swore it was a swan song made from his final sweat, a knitted masterpiece tucked beneath his ears that would usher in his demise as a human and resurrection as the world’s most realistic mannequin

his friends were surprised that he ever considered himself human in the first place

 

 

Erik Fuhrer is a PhD and MFA in poetry candidate at The University of Notre Dame.
